The Ormsby Name

We get our inspiration from the namesake of Ft. Mitchell, KY – Major General Ormsby MacKnight Mitchel – a man of many titles, including astronomer, attorney, orator, professor and Major General of the Union Army in the American Civil War.

Above all, he was a genuine Kentucky gentleman. He truly looked at the world in a way that was uniquely his own. In fact, he looked beyond our world and published the country’s first magazine dedicated to astronomy, earning himself the nickname “Old Stars” in the process.
